Shameless Plug Friday – 8-28-09
by Jeff Suever on Aug.28, 2009, under Church IT, FL CITRT, Ministry
Yep. Been a while since I’ve posted a Shameless Plug. That isn’t to say that there hasn’t been some folks who deserved a shout out. I’ve just been a little preoccupied.
Also, there is one company who I have really been holding out on. I REALLY want to add them to the Shameless Plug list, but so far, no luck. (Hint: they make phone equipment and their initials are AVAYA). Keep watch because I am SURE they will do the right thing. Eventually.
So, without further adieu:
- Derek Berg, Scott Goodger and Dave Waters. This year’s planners, organizers, and general captains of industry for the Fall FL.CITRT. aka FL.CITRT 2009 ver. 2.0. All the details can be found at FL.CITRT.ORG as well as Derek’s blog, Scott’s blog and Dave’s blog….when they get a chance to post to them. It promises to be better, faster, and more stable than FL.CITRT 2009 ver. 1.0.
- Reading. As in a book. Made of paper. So far this year I have read more books than any previous year. I think I am at six or seven. Check out my book review page (not all the books qualify for a review). More coming soon. Next up: Max Lucado.
- Anyone involved in small group ministry. One of the guys in my men’s group has a schedule change and will not be able to make it until after the first of the year. He suggested we record our weekly study so he could listen to it later. I responded “I don’t think we have anything worth taping.” I was soundly rebuked by the group as a whole.
Think small groups don’t make a difference in people’s lives? Think again. - Speaking of Men’s Groups. Honor Guard at Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens. This has the potential to change men’s ministries as we know them. Follow the CF Men’s page for details or contact them directly.
Hey, where did the rest of your domain name go?

For the faithful and observant, you noticed that when the page loaded, the domain got a lot shorter. I had been using the absolutely, 100%, not paying for anything, free Wordpress.com to host my blog. Upside-free. Downside-subdomain: www.jeffsuever.wordpress.com. A little cumbersome, but not nearly as bad as Live Spaces.
I finally broke down and paid for a domain name and mapping. Still using the free version of WordPress though. Haven’t moved to the self-hosted WordPress.org yet. In the future I may as there are a few features I would like to incorporate. When I finally stay consistently above that “1,500 unique and returning visitors” per day average, I’ll pop for the $5/month a host will cost me. For now I’ll just stick to the free version and keep working on content.
Your RSS feeds and bookmarks should still be fine…but you might want to update ‘em just to be sure.

- Derek Berg has left the building. Or more accurately the state. He, his wife and the team from Woodland have left for Ariz. and New Mexico on a mission trip. You can follow their trip from this official blog on the church website.Or DM @djberg and he may let you follow him via Google Latitude.
- Jason Lee and his dogged determination. Jason is not letting up on the idea of having his whole ACS member database in his MS Exchange Active Directory. Here’s a post on it. Here’s another one. This Monday Jason is setting up a conference call to discuss the possibility as well as what it would take to make it happen. Details can be found on his blog here.
- My other buddy Jason (this time Reynolds) for getting me into a group ride last Saturday. Turnabout is fair play, my friend…
- Lastly Jason Powell, or more accurately, his son Jacob who took a header out of a bunk bed at camp. Broke his wrist, got stitches and went right back to camp. Trooper!
PS. Anyone else feel like Larry from the old Bob Newhart show? “This is my brother, Darryl. And my other brother, Darryl.”
